Seasoning of The Night: We The Kings

1 08 2009

we the kings

We the Kings are an unapologetically commercial emo-pop band from Bradenton, FL, a small town that also doubles as the home base for Tropicana orange juice. Friends since childhood (the band’s name refers to the name of their junior-high mascot), the foursome — singer and guitarist Travis Clark, guitarist Hunter Thomsen, his bassist brother Drew Thomsen, and drummer Danny Duncan — formed the band while still attending high school.

Everybody DOES Poop

15 07 2009

Okay, so i have this thing about public restrooms that really bother me. And i do it too in fact everybody does it.

1. First off everyone poops…so why is it that i cant when there are a bunch of people in the bathroom. I feel like they are all listening to me waiting for me to make a hilarious but disgusting sound…is it just me cause I can’t do it.

2. Why do people insist on starring at your feet…So when you leave the stall you know they are gonna look at you and be like “she is the one with the rainbow flip flops that farted really loud.” Oh no this is better when you wait in a stall until everyone leaves and you finally get up to go and go you see people waiting outside so they can identify your face to your shoes. Its probably just me but I hate it.

3. WASH YOUR FUCKING HANDS. You just scrubbed your VAG with a very delicate piece of tissue do you really think you didn’t get anything on your hands. WRONG. I could punch a baby for every time I see people leaving a stall straight to the exit. Oh and another thing please dry your hands off completely touching a wet door handle is not my idea of being fucking clean.

Thank you for your time.

It is Crucial That you hear Xavier Rudd

Xavier Rudd – Dark Shades of Blue
Maybe more than any of his previous albums, Xavier Rudd’s Dark Shades of Blue is a balance of darkness and light. That’s what the Australian singer-songwriter/one-man band/didgeridoo virtuoso hears in the disc. Plenty of each went into making the disc. Dark Shades of Blue is the first Rudd album in several years to be recorded in Australia. As a result, it bears the joy and peace of mind that comes with an often-touring artist that gets a chance to catch his breath.

Flava of the Week: Meantime, by The Futureheads

The band met at City of Sunderland College as a trio of Barry Hyde (vocals and guitar), Jaff (bass), and Peter Brewis (drums). Ross Millard (vocals and guitar) joined soon after having been in a band with Jaff. They used the Sunderland City Detached Youth Project building (where Brewis and Hyde worked) as a free practice space, fitting since the project was intended to get young people off the streets by using music. They first performed in 2000, and through word-of-mouth their reputation in the local area grew. Hyde’s younger brother Dave (who replaced Brewis, who went on to join fellow north east rockers Field Music).

Stoner Confessions: Love

16 06 2009

Picture 1The thing that scares me the most is love. It’s a feeling we rarely endure and yet we cannot be seen. We get scared and nervous all the time; bills, children, spiders. But we don’t feel love all the time, well at least not  an object. At least its not the same love you share with a person, another being of your species. You’re life goal is to find that person. That one person who will be by your side through this world with unconditional love and to compliment you. Or at least you think you’re are suppose to find that person. What scares me the most is that feeling of rejection. Rejection to the feeling you get when you can’t get your mind off someone. The feeling when your heart is about to beat out of your chest it hurts so bad to think of them. Or knowing there isn’t anybody in the world who can make me feel this way. The feeling of just even thinking about them you are happy they are alive. Or when you truly believe nothing else matters. When you are scared the end result is happy, when you’re hungry you eat, when you get injured, it heals, when you are feeling bold and dangerous most likely you will be a badass. Yet the feeling after love, is never a good outcome. And when we think of loosing this person, we immediately relate it to them being with someone else. We don’t even image loosing them to death, as if they are immortal. I’ve come to the conclusion that love is used too freely. We use to our family members, but are we really in love with them, or do we just love them. We marry in a loveless relationship cause we are scared, want money, or have some ulterior motive. As if love needs more purpose. Is love selfish? Absolutely! I want to be somebody’s, somebody.

Question Everything

20 05 2009

QuestionWhat’s a ‘for sure’ thing? What is right and says it’s right? There is no sure thing in reality. ‘Things’ that we speak of can be taken away in an instant, from family to friends, or your car and a leg. Knowing this we are all so quick to result in judgement. What is judgement and who says you’re right. You may have a feeling, a feeling that something is right. But human emotions are an entirely different subject.

There are 6 billion people in the world all with a different perspective on life. Although most views are common and share similar interests they are manipulated by two sources…Media, and Religion. In Layman’s term, you are a follower. We all are, but most of us don’t realize it, and if we do, we never seem to do anything about it. Originality died right along with chivalry. I do believe we aren’t meant to understand ‘life’ and our purpose. We as humans possess emotions. Without those we would be no different than a heard of elephants. Emotions break us apart to make us all unique. Without emotions we would just be surviving. Given the responsibility of emotions we have jeopardized a promising future…

All I’m saying is for you to question everything, have doubt and look at whatever situation it may be in more than one way. You are not right, and I am not either. Take everything into consideration before you make your next judgement or decision. Joking and using negativity is so accepted, in such a way as humor. Positivity can go a long way. That’s just science...who’s to say its right? Think about it.

If You Can’t Describe It, Why Smoke It?

5 05 2009

Michael BrionesSo I was trying to describe to my friend what cigarette are like? And for some reason I couldn’t find the words. I felt stupid, cause she made it seem like ‘well if you can’t describe it then why smoke it.’ But I know what you are thinking…Weird question? Almost 70% of america have smoked a cigarette. Fortunately I’m lucky enough to have a friend that has never and will never smoke. Definitely have to try and keep those friends around. Anyways as I was saying I couldn’t find the words. That is until I smoked a Black and Mild and decided to write about it then. This is what I came up with…”Bri, ive been thinking a lot on how to describe the way a cigarette makes you feel. I guess in a way im trying to describe how it effects in the most positive way possible. I’ll give you a play by play. Basically it simply calms you down. I am really stressed out with school and work, and my head is just a jumble of thoughts. After smoking a cigarette or, black and mild in my case, I am calm, have collective thoughts. I am a little light headed because I don’t smoke often. But I am at ease. My body and mind are not altered in a way that alcohol and marijuana effect you, but just calm. Not sleepy not moppy, kind of like reseting your mind. Happy but not over excited. I hope this helps to understand why people smoke. Releases all stress. Motivated in a way. I keep using the term “in a way” to suggest that it doesn’t always feel that way, its just a slight feeling, just enough.” I would say that is a pretty accurate description. Don’t get me wrong cigarettes are disgusting and no one should smoke them, but hey…we’re only human.
